Mandate
The Ministry’s mandate is to promote, regulate, and facilitate livestock and fisheries production, including value addition, access to finance, and access to regional and international markets for food security, poverty alleviation, and socio-economic development.
The Ministry is responsible for:
- Developing policies, legislation, regulations, and standards for livestock and fisheries development.
- Promoting animal health and controlling animal diseases.
- Supporting livestock production, fisheries, aquaculture, and beekeeping.
- Facilitating investment and private sector participation.
- Strengthening research, training, and extension services.
- Promoting animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
- Supporting value addition, marketing, and trade.
- Building the capacity of state and local governments in livestock and fisheries management.
